Legislative Activity: March 08

On 2/26/08 Assemblywoman McHose and Assemblyman Chiusano introduced Assembly bill 2353, “No net loss of DEP lands for fishing, hunting, and trapping purposes”. This is a bill that I, and others, have worked on closely with Assemblywoman McHose; the conversations regarding this bill originated at the “Battle of Monmouth”. The bill boils down to; if the DEP Commissioner closes 1000 acres at a WMA to hunting or fishing the DEP would then have to open 1000 acres somewhere else for hunting and fishing.

There are now 4 proposed amendments to New Jersey’s Constitution that would guarantee the right to hunt, fish, and trap. Amazing isn’t it?
