UBNJ LEGISLATIVE CORNER…SPRING ‘08

Well the Senate and Assembly races are behind us now, the people have spoken on their candidates and public questions, yes to preserving open space and no to Stem Cell Research.

How did we do as sportspersons? I think that we did very well. The New Jersey Outdoor Alliance targeted the legislative contests in Dist 12. Dist 12 incumbents, and animal rights supporters, Senator Ellen Karcher (D) and Assemblyman Michael Panter (D) were backed by the NJ-ARA and the Animal Protection PAC and they were defeated by Sportsmen backed candidates Senator-elect Jennifer Beck, Declan O’Scanlon, and Caroline Casagrande.

Legislative Action Report
10/07 – 11/07


With the November elections complete we as sportsmen have made some gains.. We cannot rest on our laurels; we must resolve to remain committed to achieving our goals and opposing the NJ-ARA’s positions and exposing them for what they are.

1. Elections:

While the outdoor community as a whole was successful in ousting Mike Panter and Ellen Karcher in district 12. Anthony Chiappone (Dem – Dist 31) returns this session after a two year lay-off, he is an anti.
