Girl Scout Program

After months of deciding what would be best. The UBNJ Council had decided to present $500 worth of Archery equipment to the Council of Girl Scouts of Central and Southern New Jersey. The equipment consisted of bows, arrows, targets, arm guards and finger tabs. This equipment was much needed, before they had to use poorly maintained bows and arrows if they were even available to them when needed.

The Ashwood Girl Scout Community includes over 180 girls and 100 adults. The communities that make up the Ashwood Girl Scout Community are Woodstown, Pilesgrove, Alloway, and Sharptown from Salem County.

On behalf of UBNJ I presented the equipment to Carol Mosher. Carol is the Leader of Troop 96079 and is a NAA Level 1 Basic Archery Instructor for her to familiarize herself with the bows before the upcoming campout. The campout was that weekend with the older girls. There were over 40 girls that gathered at Camp Edge in Alloway. The girls enjoyed a weekend of a high rope course, canoeing, games, crafts, and ARCHERY. They used the equipment all weekend. This allowed the girls the opportunity to try archery for the first time or to continue their enjoyment of the sport.

As I stood there and watched the girl’s excitement of hitting the target for the first time, it made me proud to of been part of helping out. It was so much of a success, many of the girls just wanted to keep on shooting and not move on to the next activity planned for them. This donation will help to introduce the sport of archery to many young women who otherwise would not have the opportunity to participate in archery.

From this donation there has been more interest from the Girl Scout Leaders and parents to become certified archery instructors themselves. I have been working on forming a class to get these people certified. I also have an interest from different sportsmen’s clubs members around the south to also get their certification.

The UBNJ is a Bowhunting organization but, our main goal is to promote the sport of archery. This is why we give to groups like the Girl Scouts and the 4H just to name a few.
